TCS to hire 30,000, 70 per cent freshers New Delhi: Tata Consultancy Services plans to hire 28,000 employees in India and 2,000 abroad in the financial year 2010-2011 and about 70 per cent of recruitment will be freshers. The company is currently seeing an 8-10 per cent growth in revenue from domestic operations and is eyeing a double-digit growth in the next two years. TCS CEO and MD N Chandrasekaran said that the company will hike salaries of its employees in the coming fiscal, but did not give details, reports Financial Chronicle. TCS, has not hiked wages in the current fiscal, but employees have received 150 per cent VA payouts in two consecutive quarters - second and third quarters of FY10. "We are on a path to hire 1,000 people. We have already hired 300," he said, replying to a query on hiring plans for the current fiscal. In Q3 of FY10, TCS had made 7,692 net additions, compared with a net addition of 320 in the previous quarter. Asked about the extent to which India would be affected by the US move to slash tax-breaks to outsourcers, Chandrasekaran said the matter is not an immediate concern. Also Chandrasekaran said, "China is a tough market for IT firms and the company was seeing business opportunity in Europe." Chandrasekaran said the company had signed a few large deals as well as a number of smaller ones. "The financial sector will drive growth. We expect growth from retail, pharma and utilities," he said.

Satyam plans to expand in Latin America Hyderabad: After its Brazilian subsidiary won two multimillion dollar contracts, Mahindra Satyam plans to increase its presence in the Latin American market and explore opportunities for alliances with local businesses. Satyam subsidiary in Brazil-Satyam servicos De Informatica is looking at hiring another 100 associates over the next six months. The company currently has around 50 employees working at this centre and Albeto Rosati has been appointed as the country Head. "Our goal is to be the top player in the Latin American market leveraging Mahindra Satyam's existing global delivery model. The Latin American market is growing rapidly and we see immense growth opportunity in the region," said Arvind Malhotra, senior vice president, Mahindra Satyam. The company in a statement said the two contracts are from a global conglomerate and a leading player in the logistics sector, without revealing further details. The subsidiary would deploy technology in the enterprise business systems space and aid in enhancing the supply chain operation of these two organisations, it said.

Indians are over committed, reluctant to differ Brussels: Business executives in Europe feel Indians display a reluctance to disagree, a tendency to over-commit and a lack of transparency in sharing information. A few survey conducted by outsourcing advisory firm Quantum Step reveals that in Continental Europe, India's attitude towards caste and gender issues impact India's position as a global business center. Quantum Step surveyed 35 top companies across Europe, asking them to discuss the barriers they felt existed in doing business with Indian outsourcing firms, reports Business Standard. Companies in the Nordic region pointed out the "awkwardness" with which Indian men interacted with women. "often, the Indian teams that are sent to make a sales pitch, don't include even a single woman," says Sridhar Vedala, Quantum Step's Managing Director. "But the people they are pitching to are commonly women." Another complaint listed was the difference in the way Indians were perceived to behave towards their European clients and towards their own Indian subordinates. A final point made had to do with perception that Indians working onshore in Europe made little attempt to integrate with local employees, preferring instead to socialise and live with other Indians. But despite these findings, Vedala insists that Continental Europe is gradually opening up to do business with Indian Outsourcing companies.
